SAD!!!..World's Fastest Female Race Car Driver Dies While Trying To Break Her Own Speed Record

Racing driver Jessi Combs, considered the “fastest woman on four wheels,” has died in a car accident trying to break her own record.

Combs’s jet car crashed in the Alvord Desert where she was pronounced dead at the scene, officers in the northwestern US state of Oregon said in a statement.

Combs, 39, earned her “fastest woman” title in 2013 when she hit 398 miles (641 kilometers) per hour, and police said the fatal crash occurred while “attempting to break” the record.

“Jessi Combs was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and is currently being investigated” the Harney County Sheriff’s Office statement said.
Combs, who also appeared on various US television shows, previously tried to break her record in October. According to industry media, she was able to exceed her previous speed to reach 483 miles per hour, but a mechanical problem meant the record couldn’t be officially validated.

She had expected to do even better on Tuesday.  Combs, an accomplished mechanic, had challenged herself to beat American stuntwoman Kitty O’Neil’s 1976 “fastest woman in the world” record, which was set on a three-wheel vehicle also in the Alvord Desert, at 512 miles per hour.

Tennis: I’m Capable Of Playing With The Best, Says Us Teenager Mcnally

Tennis: I’m Capable Of Playing With The Best, Says Us Teenager Mcnally

US teen Caty McNally was awestruck as she walked onto the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium to face 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams on Wednesday at the US Open.

She exited the match brimming with confidence after threatening an upset of the 37-year-old American superstar before Williams rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 second-round triumph.

Tennis: I’m Capable Of Playing With The Best, Says Us Teenager Mcnally

“That was unbelievable,” McNally said. “I came out really strong. I felt really good out there actually on the big stage. I wasn’t too nervous.

“The first set was unbelievable tennis. I played really well, served really solid. The second and third set, she obviously picked up her level. That was pretty tough for me.”

Williams won her first Grand Slam title at the 1999 US Open and even reached her second Slam final in 2001 before 17-year-old McNally had been born.

“When I went out there, I just worried about myself, but obviously I knew I was playing against the greatest of all time,” McNally said.

“I knew that I had to bring a certain level. I’m really just happy with the way I overall played, the way I carried myself out on that stage.

“I walked out there and I had the chills. That was the most insane atmosphere. I’ve never played on a court nowhere near that big, especially a night match.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything better. It was just an unbelievable experience, something that I’ll never forget for the rest of my life.”

It taught McNally she is already playing at a level where she can compete with the best in the sport, and she isn’t even out of high school yet.

“It just shows I’m capable of playing with the best — I got a set off Serena Williams,” McNally said. “Had her close in the second set, too. Had some chances.

“It just gives me a lot of confidence, shows me that I can compete out on the biggest stages. Just keep my head down, I’m ready to go back to work.”

And McNally is already thinking about how to match Williams when she lifts her level to dominate, as she did in taking nine of the final 11 games.

Next time,” she said. “I just have to raise my level with hers.”

FIFA bans Samson Siasia for life over bribe

FIFA has slammed a life ban on former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia. In addition, he has been fined $50,000 for agreeing to ‘the manipulation of matches.’

Siasia was coach of Nigeria between 2010-2011 and for a spell in 2016. He was also coach of Under 20 and Under 23.

FIFA did not state when he committed the infractions, but said the ex-Nigeria international has been notified today.

Siasia is the third African to be banned by FIFA. Former Sierra Leone FA official Abu Bakarr Kabba and former Botswana FA official Mooketsi Kgotlele were suspended in July for five years and for life respectively.

Full Text of Statement:
The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Mr Samson Siasia, a former official of the Nigeria Football Federation, guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

The formal ethics proceedings against Mr Siasia were initiated on 11 February 2019 and stem from an extensive investigation into matches that Mr Wilson Raj Perumal attempted to manipulate for betting purposes. This large-scale investigation was conducted by FIFA via its competent departments and in cooperation with the relevant stakeholders and authorities.

In its decision, the adjudicatory chamber found that Mr Siasia had breached art. 11 (Bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics and banned him for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.

In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 50,000 has been imposed on Mr Siasia.
The decision was notified to Mr Siasia today, the date on which the ban comes into force.

Inter Finally Complete €80m Signing Of Lukaku From Man UTD

Romelu Lukaku has completed a €80m million move to Inter from Manchester United, putting an end to a summer saga that sees the striker join forces with long-time admirer Antonio Conte.

Having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Belgian is now set to spearhead a Nerazzurri side looking to unseat a Juventus outfit led by Cristiano Ronaldo as the champions of Serie A.

Inter announced the deal by having Lukaku video himself in Milan, with the 26-year-old stating: "Inter is not for everyone. That's why I'm here."

FIFA Tips Two Lagos Stadiums For U-20 Women’s W’cup

FIFA Tips Two Lagos Stadiums For U-20 Women’s W’cup

FIFA tips two Lagos stadiums for U-20 Women’s W’Cup
The Teslim Balogun and Onikan stadiums in Lagos have been tipped by FIFA to host U-20  Women’s World Cup 2020, which Nigeria is bidding for.

FIFA inspection team member, Sara Booth, gave a hint that the stadiums could be chosen to host the tournament.

She spoke during a four-day inspection of facilities and equipment by a five-man FIFA inspection team in Lagos on Tuesday.

“What we are here to do basically is to inspect the facilities, we know that Nigeria has massive support for football. We are confident. We have visited different hotels, and facilities, because it (hosting the World Cup) involves a lot of processes,” the FIFA official added.

Also, coordinator of the bid for Nigeria’s hosting of the cup, Mainasara Illo, said Lagos venues met up with FIFA’s requirement.

Illo said, “FIFA has about seven to eight conditionality, which must be met before granting the request , which includes availability of venues, capacity to fill the stadium and management of the stadium.

“Others are the readiness of the state to host the competition, how the centres appreciate women football and other facilities such as hospitals and training pitches.

“Lagos is likely to have two centres, one on the Island and another on the Mainland; all the facilities inspected are up to the required standard.”

Apart from the Lagos stadiums, other venues put forward by Nigeria are the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba and Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

When the team visited the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the leader of the delegation, Heyral Kaj, said, “We are quite impressed with what we saw here during our short inspection. It’s obvious that the stadium is still under construction.

“I’m quite positive that everything is on plan. I’m basically looking forward to coming to check again in the next few months.”

Meanwhile, Governors of Lagos and Edo States, Babajide  Sanwo-Olu and Godwin Obaseki respectively expressed readiness to host the competition when they received a joint delegation of Nigeria Football Federation officials and the FIFA inspection team.

Obaseki said the competition’s technological needs, stadiums, accommodation facilities and specialist hospital would be made available.

Sanwo-Olu added, “We are very excited that FIFA is considering hosting one of its very important tournaments, U-20 Women World Cup, in Nigeria. We will ensure adequate security for all participants.

We will also be supporting NFF and FIFA to ensure seamless transportation, accommodation and crowd management. We will do whatever would create an enduring experience for the visitors coming to the FIFA events.”

Neymar Speculation Lingers As PSG Aim To Shatter Glass Ceiling

Neymar Speculation Lingers As PSG Aim To Shatter Glass Ceiling

Neymar Speculation Lingers As PSG Aim To Shatter Glass Ceiling
Interminable transfer rumours surrounding Neymar continue to swirl unabated as the new Ligue 1 season kicks off this weekend with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain launching their assault for a seventh title in eight attempts.

Thomas Tuchel’s side began their campaign by lifting the Champions Trophy in Shenzhen, China, gaining a modicum of revenge with a 2-1 victory over Rennes, the team that shocked PSG in last season’s French Cup final.

As Neymar served the last of a three-match ban, incurred after a spat with a fan following April’s shootout loss, Kylian Mbappe pleaded with the Brazilian to stay during their trip to the Far East.

“Everyone loves him and I love him so much,” Mbappe said of Neymar, the world’s most expensive player who has been linked with a return to his former club Barcelona.

“I don’t want him to leave the team, obviously. I want him to stay. When you think about his situation and then he plays very well and he co-operates with the team you can see what he means to us.”

The Brazilian suffered another injury-plagued season, missing PSG’s embarrassing Champions League defeat by Manchester United, as well as Brazil’s triumphant Copa America campaign.

The 27-year-old has also been embroiled in widely publicised rape allegations, vehemently denied, which were eventually dismissed by Brazilian police for lack of evidence.

Amid Neymar’s tumult Mbappe, who took the 2018 World Cup by storm, tormented Ligue 1 defences to the tune of 33 goals to emerge as the club’s true poster boy.

Mbappe moved to quell any doubts over his own plans, having caused alarm when he spoke of playing “elsewhere” at the French league awards ceremony in May.

“I think it wasn’t the right place (to say that),” the 20-year-old said while in China. “I’d like to say sorry to the players who were there because I spoiled the party.”

Trump freezes Venezuelan government’s assets
Last season’s title race quickly turned into a cakewalk for PSG, but after a domestic treble in 2017/18 under Unai Emery, his successor fell short in both domestic cups.

– ‘It hurts still’ –

Despite that disappointment, the brief for Tuchel a year on remains unchanged with PSG desperately craving success in Europe, after another calamitous exit.

“It hurts a lot, it hurts still that we did not go through,” midfielder Julian Draxler told AFP, five months on.

“But from the potential in the team, we are ready to go far in the Champions League.”

While PSG has crashed out at the last-16 stage in Europe each of the past three years, it is almost unfathomable they could be dethroned in France with last season’s chief rivals losing a number of key players.

Lille sold leading scorer Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal for a reported £72 million ($87 million), while Lyon head into the new campaign without Nabil Fekir, Tanguy Ndombele and Ferland Mendy.

Fekir left his boyhood club for Real Betis, Mendy signed for Real Madrid, and Ndombele became Tottenham’s record signing in a deal that could rise to 70 million euros.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Lyon has struggled in pre-season under new boss Sylvinho, the former Barcelona and Arsenal full-back.

Sporting director and club legend Juninho, who handpicked his compatriot to replace Bruno Genesio, said the start of the campaign would be a “moment of truth” after limp displays against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

The arrival of Andre Villas-Boas, who was out of football for 18 months, at Marseille makes for an intriguing prospect.

The former protege of Jose Mourinho has pledged to do his all to restore the 1993 Champions League winners to the top after they failed to qualify for Europe last season, prompting the dismissal of Rudi Garcia.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved up 12 spots in the July FIFA ranking, to place 33rd in the world after winning bronze at the just-concluded

In the ranking table released by the world football governing body on Thursday, Nigeria garnered 1, 481 points as against 1, 433 it had in June to place 45th.

The movement has now placed Nigeria as the third in Africa behind Senegal and Tunisia, who are 20th and 29th in the world, respectively.

African champions Algeria (40th, up 28) are the biggest mover in the July edition by ranks and points (up 117), while fellow finalists, Senegal (20th, up 2) did not make a huge leap but reached their best-ever ranking position.

AFCON surprise quarter-finalists, Madagascar (96th, up 12) and Benin (82nd, up 6) saw their continental performances rewarded with a ranking rise.

Senegal are yet to win the AFCON trophy.

It would be recalled that Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Tunisia 1-0 on Wednesday to win the third place match.

Breaking: Ighalo Retires From Super Eagles
Nigerian forward, Odion Ighalo, has announced his retirement following the Super Eagle’s third placed victory over Tunisia on night at Egypt 2019.

Odion, who is the highest goal scorer in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, informed coach Gernot Rohr of his decision before leaving to join his club in China immediately after the game.

He had discussed his decision with the coach before the third-place match, saying that the constant abuse was taking a toll on his young family but he was advised to keep it under wraps for the moment. After the game, he gave his jersey as a souvenir to the coach, said his goodbyes and left,” a source stated.

Prior to the game, the 30-year-old posted a message on his WhatsApp status update that simply said “Final Game”.

“He has been very strong for us,” Rohr said, “And it is sad that he wants not to continue.

“But the door always is open for him any time.”

Ighalo, something of a late bloomer, made his senior debut for Nigeria in 2015 as the Super Eagles lost 1-0 to Uganda in a friendly.

He made 35 appearances for Nigeria, scoring 16 goals.

He was also top scorer through the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with four goals and he could also finish the tournament as top scorer having scored five in Egypt.
