Super Falcons Refuse To Leave Their Hotel In France Until Their Share Of The Fifa Money Is Paid

Super Falcons Refuse To Leave Their Hotel In France Until Their Share Of The Fifa Money Is Paid

Super Falcons refuse to leave their hotel in France until their share of the FIFA money is paid

Nigerian Super Falcons players staged a sit-in protest last night, refusing to leave their hotel in France until all of their outstanding bonuses are paid, following the team's elimination from the Women's World Cup.

The players told ESPN they are owed bonuses from two games, against Gambia and Senegal, from as far back as two years ago, amounting to 2 million Nigerian naira (about $5,600 U.S.), but they have been paid only half of that. They also say they are owed five days of daily allowance while at the World Cup.

"They paid us 1 million [naira] and said that is all. We want them to pay the balance. Part of that money is from two years ago, the other is from three years ago. And they are also owing us five days' daily allowance here in France.

Before the World Cup, we asked them for a meeting so that we could discuss our World Cup bonuses, like they did with the men's team last year. They ignored the letter and nobody said anything about it until now"  one player told ESPN.

The players are also demanding their share of the World Cup participation fee from FIFA, even though the tournament's organisers are not scheduled to pay those until September.

Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick told ESPN that all the outstanding allowances have been paid.  "We have paid them everything they are being owed," he said.

"The only thing outstanding is the participation fee from FIFA, which is not expected to come until after the tournament. But they insist that they want to get paid, as they have spoken to players from Cameroon and France, who told them they have already been paid."

It is not the first time Nigeria's women team has staged a protest over bonuses. After winning the 2016 African title in Cameroon, the squad returned home and staged a public demonstration on the streets of the capital, Abuja, to demand payment of their outstanding allowances.

In 2004, the team also sat in for three days at their hotel in South Africa after winning the African title until the allowances were settled.

AFCON: I will be watching, just as millions of Nigerians, Buhari charges Super Eagles
President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the Super Eagles to play every match for the honour of their motherland as they file out in their first match against Burundi in the African Cup of Nations holding in Egypt.

The President, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Saturday, urged the Eagles to lift the flag of Nigeria high, and reinforce the reputation of the country as a football powerhouse on the continent.

He said: “I will be watching, just as millions of Nigerians would also do.

“You have our solid support, and we will cheer you to victory,”he said.

He added: “Nigerians are known for their unconquerable spirit. Show this in the group stages, and even beyond. Nothing but lifting of the diadem is good enough for our country,”he stated.

He also enjoined the Super Eagles to be mindful of fair play, and sportsmanlike conduct, as they strive to return home with the AFCON trophy.

AFCON2019: Egypt Vs Zimbabwe Video – Highlights And Goal

AFCON2019: Egypt Vs Zimbabwe Video – Highlights And Goal

Mission accomplished for the hosts. They started this match with real vibrancy but soon ran out of ideas against a well organised and very tidy Zimbabwe side.

AFCON2019: Egypt Vs Zimbabwe Video – Highlights And Goal

Both teams lacked sharpness up front - even Salah was a little below par despite being heavily involved - but the game’s one piece of clinical play was the difference between the sides. Trezeguet’s nicely taken goal gave Egypt maximum points.

They leave the pitch with the knowledge that they will need to perform better to win this tournament, while Zimbabwe leave with no points but the conviction that they are a decent unit who could yet get out of this group.

Women’s World Cup: England Beat Japan 2-0

Women’s World Cup: England Beat Japan 2-0

Women’s World Cup: England Beat Japan 2-0

Ellen White scored twice as a much-changed England beat former champions Japan 2-0 in Nice on Wednesday to ensure that Phil Neville’s side progress to the last 16 of the women’s World Cup from first place in Group D.

Georgia Stanway released White to slot home in the 14th minute, and the same player then wrapped up the win six minutes from time, taking her tally of goals at the tournament so far to three. For England, the result allowed them to gain a measure of revenge for their heartbreaking 2-1 defeat against the same opponents in the semi-finals four years ago.

Both teams were already through to the knockout phase anyway, but there was certainly plenty to be gained by finishing first in the section given what is likely to come next.

Having arrived in France with genuine ambitions of winning the trophy, England will now head north to Valenciennes for a last-16 tie on Sunday against a third-placed side from another group.

However, they will not know until late on Thursday who they will be coming up against, with Cameroon, New Zealand, Chile and even Thailand all potential opponents.

The permutations are less complicated for Japan, but the Nadeshiko — World Cup winners in 2011 and runners-up in 2015 — will surely have a stiffer test in Rennes against either the Netherlands or Canada.

Asako Takakura’s youthful team finish the group phase with just one win, and another run to the final appears a long shot at this stage.

England, in contrast, progress with three wins out of three, despite Neville ringing the changes once again as his side returned to the Cote d’Azur after edging out Argentina in Le Havre.

There were eight changes to their line-up here, with only captain Steph Houghton, right-back Lucy Bronze and midfielder Jill Scott keeping their places. Demi Stokes and Toni Duggan made their first appearances of the tournament.

It was Japan who almost took an early lead from Kumi Yokoyama’s 35-yard free-kick which England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley tipped onto the woodwork and behind for a corner.

Del Potro suffers fresh injury scare in win at rain-affected Queen’s
Soon after, England were in front, the impressive Stanway playing a ball in behind for White to fire past the advancing Japanese goalkeeper, Ayaka Yamashita.

Scott, Stanway and Rachel Daly were all denied by Yamashita as Neville’s team pushed to extend their lead before half-time, and their physical superiority was such that they certainly deserved their advantage.

Duggan was also denied after the restart, but England eventually got their second goal from another clinical first-time finish by White, this time from a Karen Carney pass with six minutes remaining.

Substitute Yuika Sugasawa twice came close to scoring for Japan, either side of White’s second strike, but there was to be no consolation for them.

What Neymar Needs To Do To Help Seal Barcelona Return

What Neymar Needs To Do To Help Seal Barcelona Return

Neymar has told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants to leave and return to Barcelona this summer, whilst claiming he should never have left the Spanish club.
What Neymar needs to do to help seal Barcelona return

That’s according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

The Brazilian winger has been linked with a return back to Barcelona this summer, as he has apparently grown tired of life in France.

Having become the most expensive player in the history of football back in 2017 when he signed for PSG in a £198million move, Neymar’s time in Paris has been turbulent to say the least.

Despite winning Ligue 1 twice in succession, the superstar has been criticised for his antics on and off the pitch, and has recently been cast in the shadow of French World Cup superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Neymar was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year in both seasons in the French league, despite only playing 20 games in his first season and 17 in his second.

After suffering two major injuries, he appears set on a return to the Nou Camp, with reports circulating that Barca will offer up £89million and three players to bring the player back to the club.

Ivan Rakitic, Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti are all expected to be used in the deal from Barcelona.

Now, Neymar has apparently taken an extra step towards forcing the move, by demanding PSG allow him to leave.

According to the report in Mundo Deportivo, the star told PSG he had no interest in staying and says he wants to return home.

Earlier this week, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi suggested that he would not force Neymar to stay if he didn’t want to.

He appeared to be responding to the Brazilian’s plea to leave, as he said he didn’t want any superstar behaviour at the club.

"I want players willing to give everything to defend the honour of the jersey and join the club project," the president said.

"Those who do not want to, or do not understand, we see each other and talk about it.

"Of course there are contracts that must be respected, but now the priority is the total members of the project.

"Nobody forced him to sign here, nobody pushed him in. He came knowingly to join a project."

'Hard Luck For The Falcons' – Nigerians Slam VAR Decisions In France Defeat

'Hard Luck For The Falcons' – Nigerians Slam VAR Decisions In France Defeat

'Hard luck for the Falcons' – Nigerians slam VAR decisions in France defeat
Renard was ordered to retake her penalty after a video referral adjudged that keeper Nnadozie had crossed her line before the first kicked was played

The Super Falcons were "robbed" by VAR in their last group game of the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup against France, according to Nigerian fans.

Nigeria went into the encounter in dire need of a positive result, but Wendie Renard’s 79th minute penalty condemned Thomas Dennerby’s ladies to their second defeat of the championship.

The game was heading for a 0-0 draw before VAR awarded a penalty kick to the hosts after Ngozi Ebere was penalised for fouling Viviane Asseyi in Nigeria's penalty area.

The initial kick by Renard hit the outside of the post and went wide. However, VAR ordered a replay after goalkeeper Nnadozie moved off her line before the kick. The Olympique Lyon star made no mistakes in converting the retake as Les Bleues made it three wins in three games.

It was a decision that has split opinion, with many feeling the African champions were hard done by the Video Assistant Referee.

Frank Lampard Agrees To Join Chelsea After Phone Call From Roman Abra Movie

Frank Lampard Agrees To Join Chelsea After Phone Call From Roman Abra Movie

Frank Lampard is reportedly close to being named next Chelsea manager after agreeing to replace Maurizio Sarri at the club.

Frank Lampard Agrees To Join Chelsea After Phone Call From Roman Abra Movie

Both Sarri and the Stamford Bridge outfit have reached agreement to leave after just one season in charge of the Premier League side, thereby paving way for Lampard's return.
The Italian born tactician has been named new Juventus boss after the Old Lady decided to pay the Blues a compensation fee this summer.

Club owner, Roman Abramovich, is now understood to have taken up the responsibility of finding the Italian's successor and has since held talks with Lampard over the role.

According to a UK Metro report, the Russian oligarch phoned the Chelsea legend and discussed the 40-year-old's potential return to Stamford Bridge.

Abramovich reportedly promised Lampard that he will be given at least two seasons at Chelsea to steady the ship amid a looming two-window transfer ban.

The former England international made his managerial debut with Derby County last season and has thus far enjoyed a successful spell with them.

He nearly steered the Championship side to Premier League promotion before missing out on the final slot to Aston Villa after a 2-1 defeat in the playoff finals played at Wembley Stadium.

Recall that Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has reportedly been tipped as the leading candidate to replace outgoing boss Maurizio Sarri this summer.

The Blues seems to have allowed their manager leave after being paid a sum of £7 million severance package by Juventus earlier this week.

Sarri replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge in 2018 and led them to Europa league triumph at the end of his first season at the club.

Transfer News: Paul Pogba Fuels Red Devils Exit Talk As He Ponders 'new Challenge'
Paul Pogba has given a strong indication that he wants to leave Manchester United this summer to seek a “new challenge”.

The French World Cup winner rejoined United from Juventus for a then world record £89 million ($112 million) fee three years ago but has largely failed to live up to expectations.

Pogba has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid or even a return to Juventus with United having failed to qualify for the Champions League next season.

“For me, I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else,” Pogba was quoted as telling reporters in Tokyo by The Guardian on Sunday.

“I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else. I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else.”

Despite scoring 16 goals this season, half of which came from the penalty spot, Pogba was often criticised for his contribution under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United limped to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League.

Should Pogba move on, United are likely to seek a higher fee than they spent on the 26-year-old in 2016.

The summer overhaul in the transfer market at Old Trafford has already begun with the signing of Welsh winger Daniel James from Swansea for an initial £15 million ($19 million) fee this week.

The Red Devils have also been linked with bids for defenders Harry Maguire and Issa Diop and Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

Renaming Stadium After MKO Abiola Long Over Due — Sports Director
The Kwara Director of Sports, Tunde Kazeem, on Thursday said the decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to rename Abuja National Stadium as Moshood Abiola National Stadium, was long over due.

Kazeem, who was reacting to the development which took place as the country marked June 12 Democracy Day in Abuja, that he lauded Buhari’s decision – NAN reported

Freshreporters News understood that Kazeem had regretted the inability of previous government administrations to have earlier named the sports edifice after Abiola.

“It’s long overdue. We had expected previous governments to make this decision and we waited in vain. Buhari should be applauded,” he said.

A stadium in Ogun is also named after MKO and Kazeem noted that this was possible due to his involvement in sports in the state.

“Having a football team around 1982 or thereabout was epic. Also owing to the fact that his team was the highest paid at that time and everyone wanted to join the club he deserved the honour.

“He supported other sports like Tennis, Handball and rewarded players who return from international events with medals with cash prices.

“I think he was also part of the delegation to a continental event then. His contributions are enormous,” the sports administrator said.

France Crush South Korea To Open Up Women's World Cup In Style

France Crush South Korea To Open Up Women's World Cup In Style

Hosts France enjoy winning start as women's World Cup kicks off
Hosts France laid down a marker in the opening game of the women's World Cup as towering defender Wendie Renard scored twice in a rampant 4-0 win over South Korea to kick off the tournament in style in Paris on Friday.

A sell-out crowd of 45,261 filled the Parc des Princes to watch the start of what is billed as the biggest women's World Cup yet, but there was no sign of the pressure getting to the French on the big occasion.

Les Bleues are among the favourites to win the trophy on home soil and they showed no mercy to the Koreans, with the prolific Eugenie Le Sommer giving them an early lead and Renard -- the tallest player at the tournament -- twice heading home before the interval.
France crush South Korea to open up Women's World Cup in style

Captain Amandine Henry, impressive throughout, wrapped up the win late on in this Group A encounter.

The display was watched by France's President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, who were in the crowd alongside Gianni Infantino.

The FIFA chief had this week promised the month-long tournament would see the "explosion" of the women's game as he was waved in for a second term at the head of world football's governing body. Almost a million tickets have been sold for matches in the nine host cities.

This was certainly a fine start, despite the unseasonably cold Parisian evening, with the French showing their credentials having been set the target by their own federation of going all the way to the final in Lyon on July 7.

Artists perform during the opening ceremony in Paris
The problem for Corinne Diacre's team is that, if they win their group, they could well end up facing reigning champions the United States back in Paris in the quarter-finals.

The USA, whose legal battle to be paid the same as their male counterparts has made waves in the run-up to the tournament, start their campaign against Thailand on Tuesday in Reims.

Ranked fourth in the world, the French have underperformed at recent major tournaments, losing in the quarter-finals of the last World Cup, Euro 2017 and the last Olympics.

Diacre is relying on a core of players from Lyon, Europe's leading club side who won a fourth successive Champions League title last month.

- VAR plays role -

There were seven Lyon players in the French starting line-up here, and two of them combined for the ninth-minute opener, captain Henry with the low ball into the box for Le Sommer to fire in off the crossbar. It was Le Sommer's 75th goal for her country.

South Korea were hardly able to get out of their own half, with their star player, Chelsea's Ji So-yun, barely touching the ball.

France thought they had a second before the half-hour mark when Renard's header down was hooked into the net by her fellow centre-back Griedge Mbock, but after the celebrations had finally died down, the goal was disallowed for an extremely tight offside following a VAR review.

The 1.87 metre Renard was not to be denied, however, as she headed in Gaetane Thiney's corner from the right in the 35th minute to make it 2-0.

She did it again in first-half stoppage time, this time heading in a corner from the other side by Amel Majri.

Korea can count themselves lucky that this did not turn into a full-blown rout, although the excellent Henry curled in a delightful fourth from 20 yards with five minutes left.

Eden Hazard Completes €100m Move To Real Madrid

Eden Hazard Completes €100m Move To Real Madrid

Eden Hazard completes €100m move to Real Madrid
Chelsea star Eden Hazard has completed a move Real Madrid in a deal worth €100 million (£88m/$112m), and signed a contract through June 30, 2024, the La Liga club have announced.

It was earlier reported that the deal is worth a minimum €100m, but can rise to €140m (£124m/$146m)  with incentives.
The club announced Hazard will be presented as a Madrid player on June 13.

The Blancos sent representatives to London earlier this week to meet with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia, and Hazard has now officially made the move to Madrid after seven seasons at Chelsea.

The 28-year-old has made no secret of his desire to join Real Madrid, calling the move a 'dream' near the beginning of the 2018-19 season.

Following Chelsea's Europa League final triumph over Arsenal last week – a game in which Hazard scored twice – the Belgian admitted he'd likely played his final match for the Blues.
With his contract at Stamford Bridge expiring at the end of the 2019-20 season and no progress made on an extension, Chelsea have accepted the need to cash in on their Belgian superstar this summer rather than let him walk for free.

Granovskaia thanked Hazard in a statement, saying: "Although it is with sadness we say goodbye to Eden and we made it absolutely clear to him the club wished him to stay, we respect the decision he has made to take on a new challenge in a different country and follow his childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid.

"The memories he leaves us with will not fade. He provided all who watched Chelsea play with great entertainment and many match-winning contributions, and for that we thank Eden enormously.

"He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club, a wonderful individual to have around and a joy to work with. We look forward to welcoming him back to Stamford Bridge in the future."

UEFA’s distribution formula shows that Liverpool will get €15.5m participation bonus, €8.1 million for winning three group games, €35.3 million from market pool, €9.5 million for reaching the Round of 16.

Liverpool will also get €10.5 million for reaching the quarter finals and €12 million for reaching semi-finals and €19million for reaching the finals and winning it.

Speaking to BT Sport after the match, Klopp said: “I am so happy for the boys all these people, and my family. They suffer for me, they deserve it more than anybody.

“It is the best night of our professional lives.

Brazilian Football Star, Neymar Denies Alleged Rape In Paris

Brazilian Football Star, Neymar Denies Alleged Rape In Paris

Brazil football star, Neymar denies alleged rape in Paris
Freshreporters gathered that the Brazillian star, Neymar has denied accusations of rape contained in a Sao Paulo police report

He said he had been the victim of an extortion attempt by a lawyer claiming to represent the woman he is alleged to have assaulted.

The accusation was the latest blow for the Brazilian, who last month was stripped of the captaincy of the national team and has seen his international reputation suffer amid incidents of indiscipline.

The woman alleged that Neymar had drunkenly assaulted her this month at an upmarket hotel in the French capital, where he plays for the Paris St Germain club.

A statement issued by Neymar’s management on his website (www.neymarofficial.com) said the 27-year-old forward completely repudiated the allegations.

Although he was surprised by the news, the facts were already known to the player and his staff,”

“Considering that a few days ago he was the victim of attempted extortion, practised by a lawyer from Sao Paulo who said he represented the interests of the alleged victim,” read the statement.

“The player’s lawyers were immediately notified and have since taken all appropriate steps.

“We completely repudiate the unjust accusations and, above all, the exposure in the press of an extremely negative situation.

“All evidence of attempted extortion and non-rape will be submitted to the police authorities in a timely manner.”

According to the police report, the unnamed woman told investigators in Sao Paulo that she met Neymar on Instagram and he suggested they meet in Paris.

Neymar’s assistant sent her plane tickets and on May 15 she checked in to the Hotel Sofitel Paris Arc Du Triomphe, according to her account.

The Sofitel hotel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The woman told police that Neymar arrived at the hotel that night “apparently drunk,” and that they talked and “caressed”.

However, at some point, Neymar became aggressive, and through violence, practised sexual intercourse against the will of the victim,” the police report says.

The woman told police she returned home to Brazil two days later without telling French police about the alleged rape because she was “emotionally shaken and afraid to register the facts in another country,” according to the report.

Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr., earlier told local TV in Brazil the accusations were a trap and that his son would publish social media conversations with his accuser, if necessary.

The player is in Brazil, training with the national football team ahead of this month’s Copa America. Late last month, the country’s football federation replaced him as captain for the tournament with his club mate Dani Alves.

Earlier in May, Neymar was banned for three matches by the French football authorities for hitting a fan after PSG’s French Cup final loss to Rennes and was also reportedly involved in a dressing room fracas with teammates.

Paris St Germain did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Brazil’s football federation (CBF) declined to comment.
