Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed Jose Mourinho as their new manager, replacing Mauricio Pochettino.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss has signed a deal until the end of the 2022/23 season with Spurs and will be in charge for the Premier League clash with West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.

A club statement read:

‘We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Head Coach on a contract that runs until the end of the 2022/23 season.

‘Jose is one of the world’s most accomplished managers having won 25 senior trophies.

He is renowned for his tactical prowess and has managed FC Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United. ‘He has won a domestic title in a record four different countries (Portugal, England, Italy and Spain) and is one of only three managers to have won the UEFA Champions League twice with two clubs, FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

He is also a three-time Premier League Champion with Chelsea (2005, 2006, 2015).

Chairman Daniel Levy said: ‘In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached.

We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.’ Mourinho added: ‘I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.’

The 56-year-old spent two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford, winning the EFL Cup and Europa League in that time.

In his first season in charge, the Red Devils finished sixth, picking up the two trophies, while United finished second in his final full campaign.

Spurs confirmed the departure of Pochettino on Tuesday night, with Levy saying:

‘We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the Board has taken lightly, nor in haste,’ a statement read. ‘Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.

‘It falls to the Board to make the difficult decisions – this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff – but we do so in the Club’s best interests.

‘Mauricio and his coaching staff will always be part of our history. I have the utmost admiration for the manner in which he dealt with the difficult times away from a home ground whilst we built the new stadium and for the warmth and positivity he brought to us.

I should like to thank him and his coaching staff for all they have contributed. They will always be welcome here.

‘We have a talented squad. We need to re-energise and look to deliver a positive season for our supporters.’

Lesotho vs Nigeria: Osimhen scores brace as Super Eagles thrash Crocodiles 4-2

Nigeria's Super Eagles cruised to 4-2 win over Lesotho in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Setsoto Stadium.
The three-time African kings got the game started on a flat-foot as they allowed the host to take the lead in the 11th minute through a superb header from Masoabi Nkoto.

Coach Thabo Senong's men were high on confidence having grabbed the early goal as they continued to mount pressure on the visitors.

But their lead did not stand for too long as Everton forward Alex Iwobi struck a low but powerful shot from close range into the far left angle of the post to level parity for the Eagles.

His goal came in the 26th minute as they made a quick counter-attacking move to get back into the game just before the half-hour mark.

The goal appeared to have boosted the confidence of the Nigerian players as they pressured their hosts for more goals. And in the 36th minute, their efforts paid off as a Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze handed his side the lead for the first time in the meeting.

The 20-year-old star headed his side ahead from close range and Lesotho goalkeeper had no answer to the question he was asked by the La Liga side.

A goal that ensured Gernot Rohr's men take a goal advantage into the dressing room to observe the 15 minutes break. Action resumed in the second half with both sides begging for more goals but none could find the back of the net until 75th minute when Victor Osimhen recorded his name on the scores sheet.

Injured Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, has undergone successful surgery on his left knee which he injured in the friendly against Brazil.

The young goalkeeper fractured his knee while representing Nigeria in an international friendly that was played in Singapore last month.

The Depotivo La Coruna shot-stopper who is on loan at Omonia FC in Cyprus landed awkwardly on his knee after contesting for a ball in the air during the 1-1 draw with Brazil.

With the initial scan that was carried out suggesting that the 20-year-old might be out for up to six months, he has now gone under the knife and will be hoping to return before that timeline.

Uzoho shared the news of his successful surgery on his Instagram page with a photo of him on the hospital bed.

He wrote:
And it was a success, I’m grateful to Every Prayer and Good wishes Said, Even the hidden Prayers said on My Behalf... I’m deeply grateful. Now let the Healing Begin. IN CHRIST ALONE

The Super Eagles official handle has also wished the big man a speedy recovery.

In Uzoho's absence, Daniel Akpeyi was given an invite back to the team by Gernot Rohr, who also handed him the starters shirt on Wednesday in the 2-1 win against Benin Republic in Nigeria's first game of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles' next game is against Lesotho, who grabbed a 1-1 draw away from home in their opening game against Sierra Leone.

Enyeama's visit came a day after the Super Eagles defeated Benin Republic 2-1 in an AFCON 2021 qualifiers in which Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu scored for Nigeria.

The former Enyimba goalkeeper retired from international football in 2015 after having reported bust-up with ex-Super Eagles handler Sunday Oliseh.

Vincent Enyeama was in good mood when he appeared at the Super Eagles training where he took photos with the current three goalkeepers in the team.

The three goalkeepers are Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Maduka Okoye.

They are expected to fly to Lesotho on Saturday, November 16, for their second game in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

Nigeria won bronze medal at the last Nations Cup edition in Egypt after beating Tunisia in the third place match. Meanwhile, the rationale behind Vincent Enyeama's visit to the Super Eagles training is still not known.

He was recently released by French club Lille and Vincent Enyeama is believed to be looking for another club presently. Enyeama played 101 times for the Super Eagles between 2002 and 2015 before hanging his gloves.
