Iran To Allow Women Watch International Football Matches In Stadiums

Iran To Allow Women Watch International Football Matches In Stadiums

Iran To Allow Women Watch International Football Matches In Stadiums

Iran’s Sports Minister, Masoud Soltanifar, on Thursday reported that Iranian women will be allowed into stadiums to watch the men’s national team play football.

Soltanifar wrote in a statement.....

“All necessary preparations have been made so that women, initially however only for international games, can come into the football stadiums.
“At the Azadi Stadium in Tehran, where Iran play most of their matches and are due to host World Cup qualifiers from next month, separate entrances, stands and toilets have been prepared’’.

Soltanifar said there will also be extra police to ensure women can enter and leave the stadium safely. Women had been banned from attending football matches in Iran for four decades.

A woman recently died after setting herself on fire in protest at being given a jail term for attempting to watch a club match.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is reportedly in favour of lifting the ban but has been unable to prevail against the wishes of Iran’s powerful clergy, which believes a stadium atmosphere is unsuitable for women.

However, the ban violates the statutes of football governing body FIFA meaning Iran could be threatened with sanctions. The sanctions may include effectively being kicked out of the 2022 World Cup, if the ban remains in place.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said “I am hopeful that the Iranian Federation and the Iranian authorities were receptive to our repeated calls to address this unacceptable situation. “Our position is clear and firm.

“Women have to be allowed into football stadiums in Iran. “We understand there are steps and processes that need to be taken before this is done in a proper and safe way but now is the moment to change things.

“FIFA is expecting positive developments starting in the next Iran home match in October’’. Iran host Cambodia on Oct. 10 to continue qualifying for Qatar 2022.

Now my future is fixed, all I want is to help this team achieve what I believe we can and win trophies again, together.

'As one of the senior players in the squad, I want to support and lead in any way that I can to assist the younger players, so they know what it means to play here.

'I still feel that I have so much more to achieve at the club and I truly believe that Manchester United can build on the club's tradition of success and reward our fans for their support.

'I am committed to continue repaying the fans for all of the care that they've shown me during the good times and the bad.'

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: 'I am delighted that David has committed his long-term future to the club. Over recent years, David has proved himself to be the best in the world and a vital part of our plans as we look to take Manchester United back to where it belongs.

'David is a fantastic person and his outstanding quality provides the perfect base to our defence.

'Over his time here, David has really understood the values of playing for Manchester United and now represents everything you want in a goalkeeper.

'As a player he is still hugely determined and hungry to achieve more. We all look forward to working together to meet those ambitions over the coming years.'

Goalkeeper Enyeama Plans Return To Super Eagles After 4 Years

Vincent Enyeama, the former Nigeria goalkeeper and captain who resigned from the National team after his clash with former Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, in 2015, has hinted of a possible return to the National team.

The 37-year-old had an interview with Brila FM on Friday Sept. 13 where he stated  that should the country call for his services, he would oblige them.

“I cannot say no to Nigeria, that’s the truth. If Nigeria tells me today ‘Vincent, we have goalkeeping problem; we need you’, I will be there. I can’t say no” he said

The former Lille goalkeeper also said that since his retirement, no one from the NFF has reached out to ask him to overturn his decision and return to the Eagles.

“Since I left Nigerian football in 2015, no one has contacted me.” he said

Enyeama has been without a club since August 2018 when his contract with French side Lille was terminated by mutual consent but had a failed trial with another Ligue 1 outfit, Dijon, two months ago.

Jose Mourinho Names His Best Club, Gives Reason

Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has identified Real Madrid as the best club he coached in his career.

According to the Portuguese, his best experiences as a manager came at Real Madrid.

Mourinho, who spent three seasons at Real Madrid, won one La Liga title during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 56-year-old, who also coached Inter Milan and Porto, was recently linked with a return to Real Madrid to replace current manager, Zinedine Zidane.

“Real Madrid was my best experience because of what I learned as a coach as a man and for the lessons that I took in my career and in my life,” he told Portuguese TV station Channel 11.

“It is the best memory of my career, it was fantastic.”

Mourinho added: “What they asked me at Real Madrid suited my nature.

“They told me the best team in Spain was from the other side, that they were crushing us and we had to reverse the situation.

“We had to prevent Barca from crushing us and that’s why the Mestalla Cup final is the most important (trophy he won).

“From there nothing was the same. We won the League, the Super Cup, but nothing was like the Cup final and I, unfortunately, failed to win the three Champions semi-finals.”

Mourinho is currently out of work after being sacked by Manchester United last December.

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane has been a long-term admirer of Kante.

BAD!!! CAF Is Yet Pay 2019 AFCON Winners

BAD!!! CAF Is Yet Pay 2019 AFCON Winners

The top three winners of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) are yet to get money over the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) broke state.

It was expected that $14.2m will be shared between the best eight teams at the 2019 AFCON but the continental football body is yet to pay out the sum. Algeria was expected to get $4.5m for winning the football tournament. Senegal and Nigeria on the other hand were expected to go home with $2.5m and $2m respectively for coming second and third.

However extracts from the minutes of CAF’s Executive Committee meeting in Cairo on Tuesday September 10, which was obtained Sports Extra, revealed that the continental football body's present income does not match expenditure and its officials are dipping into its cash reserves to meet recurrent expenditure.

“It appears, from the analysis of the Finance Committee, that CAF has entered a cycle of structural deficit that will reach about six $6m at the end of this year if it is not reversed immediately,” CAF’s Finance Committee chairman, Fouzi Lekjaa was quoted as saying.

“There is a need to reverse this deficit trend by rationalising spending and making use of better revenue potential for CAF.”

Brila FM reported days ago that the Nigeria Football Federation only received $600 000 from CAF back in August, from the total sum for finishing third in the competition. Winners of the competition Algeria and runners up, Teranga Lions of Senegal, and fourth-placed Carthage Eagles of Tunisia are also yet to receive the full payment.

It was also learnt that CAF Champions League winners, Esperance of Tunisia are also caught up in the mess as they are still been owe $2.5m prize money.

Hatem Ben Arfa And Claudio Marchisio Among Top 5 Free Agents Looking For A Club

Hatem Ben Arfa And Claudio Marchisio Among Top Five Free Agents Looking For A Club

The summer transfer window has finally shut down across the top European leagues and all clubs are ready with their squads for the 2019/20 season.

However, free agents can still sign for clubs and there are several players capable of offering something to clubs in England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and beyond.

Could it be a case the of termination of their previous contract because of tension with management or owners, or poor form, that is preventing clubs from approaching any of these players?

They are still up for grabs and could well prove to be worth the risk. Here, we take a look at five of the best free agents.

Hatem Ben Arfa – Attacking midfielder

Age: 32

Market value: €6 million

Once linked with a move to Barcelona, former Rennes midfielder Ben Arfa is currently without a club.

The Frenchman has not stayed for long at any club, plying his trade for Lyon, Marseille, Newcastle, Hull City, Nice and Paris Saint-Germain before joining Rennes.

Despite being a free agent, Ben Arfa still has a lot to give. He remains a top dribbler, a good finisher and a player capable of single-handedly turning any game around with his ability to swivel past defenders and impact the opposition goal, whether it be through finding the net himself or creating opportunities for others.

Then again, the 32-year-old appears in no rush to accept a new challenge as he recently confirmed that he had turned down several offers because they did not sufficiently excite him. West Ham, Fiorentina and Fenerbahce were among the top clubs chasing him.

Claudio Marchisio – Central midfielder

Age: 33

Market value: €3m

Juventus legend Marchisio is a free agent after Zenit St Petersburg agreed to part ways after just 10 months on from his arrival.

The veteran Italian midfielder played a vital role from the centre of midfield in Juve’s success in the last 10 years. With 37 goals and 44 assists in all competitions, seven Serie A titles, four domestic cups and three Italian Supercups, Marchisio deserved a legend’s send-off.

But they decided to ‘mutually’ part ways with the midfielder, despite the fact he wanted to stay in Turin. This brought the 33-year-old to Zenit, where he spent 10 months and picked up a league title.

Marchisio is now without a club but has been tipped to move to Monaco or Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, with the latter assuming pole position in the race to sign a player who has won 55 Italy caps.

Wilfried Bony – Striker
Hatem Ben Arfa And Claudio Marchisio Among Top Five Free Agents Looking For A Club

Age: 30

Market value: €5.5m

Former Manchester City striker Bony is a free agent after his contract with Swansea expired this summer.

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a promising stint with Vitesse where he scored 46 goals and provided 14 assists in just 65 games in the Eredivisie to attract interest from mid-table Premier League sides.

Bony’s debut season at Swansea produced 16 goals and four assists in 27 starts and seven appearances off the bench. This drove City to pay €32.3m to gain his services, a huge amount in 2015 for a player yet to establish himself in the top two tiers in his position.

This is where it went wrong for the Ivory Coast international. He scored just six goals and provided four assists in 36 appearances for the Citizens.

Bony then endured short stints at Stoke City, back at Swansea and even Al Arabi before returning to the Liberty Stadium to see out his contract. He was linked to Brighton this summer but the rumours have cooled since first appearing.

Markel Susaeta – Winger

Age: 31

Market value: €6m

After 500 games across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao, Susaeta has bid adieu to the Basque club following the expiry of his contract.

The 31-year-old scored 37 goals and provided 59 assists and shone for Bilbao under Ernesto Valverde. His work-rate and commitment to defensive responsibilities made him a perfect fit under the Spaniard.

But the emergence of Inaki Williams limited Susaeta’s chances as the focal point of Bilbao’s attacks.

The Basque player started just 15 games last season, indicating that he was not in the plans of the new coach Gaizka Garitano.

Susuaeta is hesitant about a move to another Spanish club and Mundo Deportivo claim he could be set for a big money move to a Japanese club this season.

Danny Simpson – Full-back

Age: 32

Market value: €3.5m

Part of Leicester City’s dream team that won the Premier League in 2015/16, right-back Simpson is yet another top English professional still looking for his next club.

Ricardo Pereira – who was the Foxes’ best player last season – became an undisputed starter at the King Power Stadium, pushing Simpson down the pecking order. This caused him to make just 13 appearances across all competitions last season.

The Manchester United academy graduate has played for Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers before settling down with the Foxes and becoming a major part of their Premier League-winning team.

Pereira has restricted Simpson’s minutes, causing him to search for a club where he can enjoy first-team football regularly once again. It is believed that French side Amiens are favourites to bring in the veteran full-back.

Samuel Eto'o Bows Out Of Football After 22years

Former Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid forward Samuel Eto’o has announced retirement from football after 22 years of successful career.

The 38-year-old’s last club was Qatar Star League side Qatar SC, which he joined in the summer of 2018 from Turkey’s Konyaspor.

In a career spanning 22 years, the former Cameroon international played for the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, Chelsea and Everton.

Eto’o announced his retirement through an Instagram post with the caption, “The End. Towards a new challenge. Thank you all, big love.”

See his post:

Eto’o joined Real Madrid as a youth player in 1997 and went on to spend the next three years with Los Blancos but couldn’t cement his position in the first team. He moved to RCD Mallorca and after four years at the club, Barcelona came calling where he shot to fame.

He moved to Serie A with Inter in 2009 and after a brief spell in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala, the forward joined Chelsea in 2013 before making another move, this time to Everton after a year.

A transfer to Sampdoria in 2015 was followed by a move to Turkey with Antalyaspor, where he spent three years before joining Konyaspor.
