Arsenal’s Mkhitaryan To Miss Europa League Final Over Safety Fears

Arsenal’s Mkhitaryan To Miss Europa League Final Over Safety Fears

Arsenal’s Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will miss the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku amid fears over his safety.

Mkhitaryan’s well-being was a concern for Arsenal due to the tense political dispute between Armenia and final hosts Azerbaijan.
Arsenal’s Mkhitaryan to miss Europa League final over safety fears
The Premier League club have decided against Mkhitaryan travelling with the rest of Unai Emery’s squad for next Wednesday’s game.

We are very disappointed to announce that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be travelling with the squad for our UEFA Europa League final against Chelsea,” an Arsenal statement announced on Tuesday.
“We have thoroughly explored all the options for Micki to be part of the squad but after discussing this with Micki and his family we have collectively agreed he will not be in our travelling party.”

Azerbaijan’s ambassador to the UK, Tahir Taghizadeh, had insisted Mkhitaryan would be free from any threat of violence, but it was reported the star didn’t believe he would be safe on the pitch.

“Having considered all the current options, we had to take the tough decision for me not to travel with the squad to the UEL Final against Chelsea,” Mkhitaryan tweeted.
“It’s the kind of game that doesn’t come along very often for us players and I must admit, it hurts me a lot to miss it. I will be cheering my teammates on! Let’s bring it home.”

Mkhitaryan had featured in 11 games during the Europa League campaign and his absence will be a big blow as Arsenal look for the victory they need to qualify for next season’s Champions League

“We have written to UEFA expressing our deep concerns about this situation,” the Arsenal statement added.
“We’re also very sad that a player will miss out on a major European final in circumstances such as this, as it is something that comes along very rarely in a footballer’s career.

Micki has been a key player in our run to the final so this is a big loss for us from a team perspective.”

Armeria captain Mkhitaryan skipped the Gunners’ Europa League fixture against Qarabag in October because of tensions caused by a dispute over the Nagorny Karabakh region.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have feuded over Nagorny Karabakh since Armenian separatists seized the territory in a war that claimed about 30,000 lives in the early 1990s.

A ceasefire was agreed in 1994 but the two countries remain locked in a bitter dispute with frequent exchanges of fire, and tensions are such that Mkhitaryan also did not travel to Azerbaijan with former club Borussia Dortmund for a Europa League match against Galaba FK in 2015.

City Player Of The Season Bernardo Makes UCL Pledge To Fans

City Player Of The Season Bernardo Makes UCL Pledge To Fans

City Player of the Season Bernardo makes UCL pledge to fans
Bernardo Silva vowed that he and his treble-winning team-mates have their sights set on the Champions League after being named Manchester City's Player of the Season at the club's trophy parade on Monday.

Silva enjoyed a fine campaign, nailing down a spot in the starting XI despite Riyad Mahrez's arrival and excelling in a number of different roles, including on the wing and deputising for the often-injured Kevin De Bruyne in midfield.

The Portuguese trickster's haul of seven goals in the Premier League helped City retain the title, while they also claimed the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, the latter of which they won in a 6-0 hammering of Watford on Saturday – a record in the competition.

City announced Silva had topped a fan vote for the individual honour during Monday's celebrations, with the winner declaring his intention to help secure European success next term after falling to Tottenham at the quarter-final stage in the 2018-19 campaign.

"Thank you very much everyone," he said. "The way you pushed us this season. You made it real for us. Without them [the fans], it wouldn't be possible. Next season, we'll come back, trying to give you more titles.

"A lot of hard work has been put in. We're very tired! It's been a long season, a fantastic season for us, but with four trophies [the Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield] for all squad and staff, it's been amazing.

"Hopefully, we want to do better, try and go for European trophies as well - it's what we're missing. The supporters need to demand more from us. European trophies - we need that. Let’s go for it!”
Manager Pep Guardiola will be delighted to hear the 24-year-old's rallying cry, with the two-time winner of the competition not having lifted the coveted trophy since 2011 with Barcelona despite the embarrassment of talent throughout a hugely expensive Man City squad.

Indeed, the Catalan coach was only able to reach the semi-final stage in three consecutive years with Bayern Munich, while failing to navigate past the quarter-finals during his time with the Premier League champions.(Goal.com)

Griezmann Jeered As Atletico Draw With Levante

Griezmann Jeered As Atletico Draw With Levante

Griezmann Jeered As Atletico Draw With Levante
Antoine Griezmann was jeered during his last game for Atletico Madrid and Rodrigo might have scored his final goal for the club as they came from behind to draw 2-2 against Levante in La Liga on Saturday.

Griezmann received whistles at the City of Valencia Stadium from the visiting fans, who were also heard chanting “out, out, out” before goals from Sergio Camello and Rodrigo ensured Atletico at least ended the season with a draw.

Diego Simeone has dismissed fears of a mass exodus, despite both Diego Godin and Griezmann already announcing their departures, with the likes of Rodrigo, Juanfran and Filipe Luis all expected to follow.

If this was to be their farewell outing for Atletico, it was an underwhelming finale as Levante, who only secured safety from relegation last weekend, claimed a deserved point.

They might have been disappointed not to take all three after leading 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Erick Cabaco and Roger Marti before then playing against 10 men for the best part of 40 minutes after Angel Correa was sent off.

But Atletico fought back, Rodrigo firing into the top corner before 18-year-old substitute Camello scored his first goal for the club, finishing at the back post.

Griezmann was unable to add to his tally of 133 goals in 257 games across all competitions in what became a bitter end to his five successful seasons for the club.

Godin was given a rousing goodbye ceremony at the Wanda Metropolitano last weekend but the timing of Griezmann’s announcement, perhaps deliberately, meant he avoided a last meeting with the Atleti fan

But those that made the trip to Valencia were determined to make their displeasure known and it was noticeable that Griezmann made a swift exit after the final whistle.

Camello, born in Madrid and a product of Atletico’s academy, delivered a more positive message for the future and a timely reminder of Atletico’s ability to endure in recent years, despite the departures of their biggest stars.

Levante took the lead through a brilliant opener from Cabaco, who flicked in with the back of his heel after a header back from Ruben Vezo.

Roger doubled the advantage shortly before half-time, intercepting a loose pass from Thomas Partey before skipping over Rodrigo and firing past Antonio Adan, who was standing in for the injured Jan Oblak.

Atletico’s task became more difficult when Correa was sent off for a petulant kick on Chema but Rodrigo gave them hope with a stunning strike into the top corner, before Koke’s shot fell kindly for Camello at the back post.

Gabriel Jesus Should Leave Man City – Rivaldo

Gabriel Jesus Should Leave Man City – Rivaldo

The Brazilian legend, Rivaldo, has adviced Gabriel Jesus to quit Manchester City this summer so as to get more regular playing time elsewhere.

Recall that Grabriel Jesus joined Man City from Palmeiras in 2017 and his current contract will be active until 2023.

The 22-year-old striker has actually featured in 46 competitions this season but started just 20 of those, scoring 19 goals as his side retained their Premier League and Carabao Cup crowns but slided-out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

Although Jesus described Manchester as his "home" in January, but latter in April he admitted that he has been frustrated by his fluctuating role in Pep Guardiola's team.

Read Jesus' statement:
"I always want to play. Of course it frustrates me but in a good way, it makes me want to train and work hard... I have always made it very clear that I always want to be with the team."

"As a young prospect he could continue and keep evolving with Guardiola, hoping that more chances come, or he could leave for another club of similar stature to try to become a regular starting 11 player.

"I see the second option as the best solution. He already gained experience and maturity at City and looks prepared for a new challenge in a team where he could be more important for the team."

Neymar Banned For Three Matches After Insulting Referee During PSG’s Defeat To Manchester United

Neymar Banned For Three Matches After Insulting Referee During PSG’s Defeat To Manchester United

Neymar hit with 3-match Champions League ban for telling VAR officials to
Neymar has been banned for three Champions League games by UEFA after “insulting match officials” during PSG’s defeat to Manchester United.

The Brazilian was watching the second-leg of the dramatic round-of-16 tie from the sidelines, where United defeated PSG 3-1 at the Parc des Princes, having been ruled out through injury.

But in a social media post after the game, Neymar explicitly criticised the controversial last-gasp penalty awarded to United for handball against Presnel Kimpembe.

Neymar wrote in an Instagram handle:

'This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.''

''There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f*** yourselves!''

As a followup to the above statement, UEFA’s disciplinary committee has released an official statement, it reads:

"The CEDB has decided to suspend the Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior for three (3) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible, for insulting match officials."

This implies that the £200m star player will miss half of Paris Saint-Germain's group games in next year's Champions League

Liverpool Vs Chelsea: Mane, Salah Score As Reds Defeat The Blues 2-0

The Liverpool vs Chelsea match ended 2 - 0 in favour of Jurgen Klopp's men as they stay 2-points buoyantly at ranking high the Premier League table.

The first visible chance of the game fell to Mohamed Salah when he took a first-time volley from an Sadio Mane's cross which Kepa Arrizabalaga went to ground to catch easily.

Just after clocking the 20th minute, Eden Hazard who was played as a false-nine, found his way into the Liverpool box as he twists and turns before hitting a low drive, but it did not trouble Alisson in goal. Willian also had an opportunity wasted in the 30th minute as he made a solo run into the 18-yard area but could not direct his shot towards goal.

Mane should have made it 1-0 in the 38th minute as Salah's cut-back a low cross from the left flank and the Senegalese had Arrizalaga beaten but not the post. The first half ended with not much talking points as Chelsea had Antonio Rudiger carried off with a suspected knee injury and Ceasar Azpilicueta shown a yellow card.

Knowing full sure that Manchester City had taken three points at Crystal Palace, Liverpool were put in the hot seat following a goalless first half.

Finally, six minutes after the restart, Liverpool scored the opener through Mane, courtesy of a beautiful cross from Jordan Henderson as he headed home to make it 1-0 to the Reds.
And a minute later, Salah scored an absolute screamer as he unleashed a shot from his favourite left-foot, giving Arrizabalaga no chance in goal to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Hazard was unlucky not to have reduced the deficit on the hour mark, after Azpilicueta's long pass found him one-on-one with Alisson but his shot hit the upright.
WHAT A GOAL MO SALAH!
Klopp's men held on to record a hard-earned 2-0 win over their rivals and stay two points ahead of Manchester City who still have a game at hand.

Choupo-moting Produces Miss-of-the-season Candidate With Strasbourg Shocker

This Cameroonian player actually made a inexplicable mistake in the 28th minute which made him to deny his team a goal.

Paris Saint-Germain had a chance to win the Ligue 1 title on Sunday and were it not for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, they very well might have. Needing a win to clinch the French championship, PSG could only draw 2-2 with Strasbourg at Parc des Princes.

Choupo-Moting did open the scoring in the 13th minute but the forward more than made up for that later in the first half with a truly inexplicable moment.
Christopher Nkunku was played in behind the Strasbourg defence and chipped over the onrushing goalkeeper.

What happened next defied belief. Choupo-Moting chased down the ball and, in attempting to put the ball in the net, inadvertently kept the ball out when it also would have gone in without a touch.
That miss would prove costly as Strasbourg scored two goals later in the first half, making Thilo Kehrer's late goal only an equaliser rather than a title-clinching winner.

After the game, Choupo-Moting just only apologise for his moment of loss.

"It's a shame because we had a lot of opportunities. The fans were still behind us so it hurts," the Cameroonian told Canal+.
"The goal had a good effect on me. Considering the other shot, at first, I thought it was a pass for me, then I was offside.
"It was really fast, I'm sorry. It's a shame not winning at home because it's always better."

PSG travel to play second-placed Lille next Sunday with another chance to lock up the title, though it will not come at the Parc des Princes.

'It's In Our Hands' - Emery Still Believes Arsenal Can Still Grab A Top-Four Spot

'It's In Our Hands' - Emery Still Believes Arsenal Can Still Grab A Top-Four Spot

'It's In Our Hands' - Emery Still Believes Arsenal Can Still Grab A Top-Four Spot

With the fight to finish in the Champions League places expected to go to the wire, the Gunners' loss at Goodison could prove crucial come May.

Unai Emery admitted Arsenal missed a big opportunity in their timid 1-0 loss to Everton but is adamant there will be more chances to cement a top-four spot.
Phil Jagielka's 10th-minute goal at Goodison Park on Sunday condemned the Gunners to their first defeat in seven Premier League matches.

A point would have been enough to overtake Tottenham in third but the visitors failed to match Everton's enthusiasm in an extension of their away woes that have produced just six points from the last 27 available on the road.

"We knew it was going to be difficult and that we are going to have to take opportunities like today," Emery said.

"We lost a great opportunity today to take three points. We will have more chances in the next matches. It depends on us and also on other teams.

"We need to be consistent in 38 matches but we lost that consistency today. We need to be consistent in the next matches and if we do that we can win.

"We can be negative because we lost three points, but it's in our hands to continue to take chances to be in the top four."

Doubts over Aaron Ramsey's ability to manage a groin issue for 90 minutes forced Emery to leave the in-form Wales star on the bench for the first half and Everton completely overran the starting midfield pair of Matteo Guendouzi and Mohamed Elneny, who was withdrawn at the break.
