A Pakistan International Airlines plane has crashed in a residential area of the southern Pakistani city of Karachi, killing all 107 passengers on board.

The jet which crash near an airport was carrying 99 passengers and eight crew members when the horror smash unfolded.

The mayor while speaking from the scene of the tragedy, said none of the 107 passengers and crew survived.

Pictures and footage from the scene show a trail of devastation with buildings reduced to rubble and smoke billowing into the air.

The plane went down in a heavily populated residential area just short of Karachi's main airport after the captain reported a loss of power in both engines, declared a mayday and made a second attempt to land after the first had failed.
