Italy appeared headed for a nationwide closure of schools and universities on Wednesday, amid a push to curb the spread of the coronavirus epidemic

The country will close all schools and universities around the country until the middle of this month as officials work to contain the outbreak of Coronavirus.

Education Minister Lucia Azzolina told reporters in Rome on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting presided by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, that;

schools should be left open or closed?

We have asked for an opinion from the scientific committee on whether A decision will be taken in the next few hours.

Italy would follow similar measures by Japan, which is enforcing a complete school shutdown due to last until April, and Hong Kong.

The measure would deal a further blow to an economy that was already headed for recession.

The government, according to an official, is studying a stimulus package worth 3.6 billion euros ($4 billion) and pushing its deficit above 2.4% of gross domestic product.
