It can be recalled that an attack was launched few months ago leaving so many  people dead.  This  scene has stirred up tension in Christchurch

Freshreporters News gathered that the policemen are on active operations due to the discovery. A bomb disposal team, ambulance and fire and emergency crews are at the scene.

Mirror UK reported that the suspicious package was found in an empty property and has since been made safe by The New Zealand Defence Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit,

1.4b Facebook Members Predicted To Die By 2100

1.4b Facebook Members Predicted To Die By 2100

1.4b Facebook members predicted to die by 2100

At least 1.4 billion Facebook members have been predicted to die before 2100, as a result of which dead members on the social media platform could outnumber the living members by 2070.

A new analysis conducted by researchers from the Oxford Internet Institute (part of the University of Oxford, England) said  the dead may outnumber the living on Facebook within 50 years – a trend that it said will have grave implications for the world’s digital heritage in the future. From their analysis, the researchers said if Facebook continues to expand at current rates, the number of deceased members could reach as high as 4.9 billion before the end of the century. Facebook With an estimated 2.32 billion monthly active users as of the fourth quarter of 2018, Facebook is currently rated the world’s largest social network.

The predictions are based on data from the UN, which provide the expected number of mortalities and total populations for every country in the world distributed by age, and Facebook data scraped from the company’s Audience Insights feature. Nigeria is ranked as African’s highest internet using country, making up 27.4 percent of the continent’s total usage.

According to statcounter GlobalStats, Nigeria had 79.25 percent Facebook users between March 2018 and March 2019. Statistics also predict that the number of Facebook users in Nigeria is expected to reach 30.4 million, up from 22.4 million in 2018.
Lead author of the analysis, Carl Ohman, a doctoral candidate at the Oxford Internet Institute said the statistics give rise to new and difficult questions around who has the right to all this data, how should it be managed in the best interests of the families and friends of the deceased and its use by future historians to understand the past.

“On a societal level, we have just begun asking these questions and we have a long way to go. The management of our digital remains will eventually affect everyone who uses social media, since all of us will one day pass away and leave our data behind. “But the totality of the deceased user profiles also amounts to something larger than the sum of its parts.
It is, or will at least become, part of our global digital heritage,” Ohman stated. “Co-author of the study, David Watson, also a DPhil student at the Institute explained: “Never before in history has such a vast archive of human behaviour and culture been assembled in one place. Controlling this archive will, in a sense, be to control our history. “It is therefore important that we ensure that access to these historical data is not limited to a single for-profit firm.

It is also important to make sure that future generations can use our digital heritage to understand their history.” Ohman said the analysis sets up two potential extreme scenarios, arguing that the future trend will fall somewhere in between. “The first scenario assumes that no new users join Facebook as of 2018. Under these conditions, Asia’s share of dead users increases rapidly to account for nearly 44 percent of the total by the end of the century.

“Nearly half of those profiles come from India and Indonesia, which together account for just under 279 million Facebook mortalities by 2100. “The second scenario assumes that Facebook continues to grow by its current rate of 13 percent globally, every year, until each market reaches saturation.” Ohman stated that under these conditions, Africa will make up a growing share of dead users. “Nigeria, in particular, becomes a major hub in this scenario, accounting for over 6 percent of the total. By contrast, Western users will account for only a minority of users, with only the US making the top 10. BBNaija: Fans ‘impatient’ as new season delays “The results should be interpreted not as a prediction of the future, but as a commentary on the current development, and an opportunity to shape what future we are headed towards. “But this has no bearing on our larger point that critical discussion of online death and its macroscopic implications is urgently needed.

Facebook is merely an example of what awaits any platform with similar connectivity and global reach,” Ohman explained. Watson added: “Facebook should invite historians, archivists, archaeologists and ethicists to participate in the process of curating the vast volume of accumulated data that we leave behind as we pass away. “This is not just about finding solutions that will be sustainable for the next couple of years, but possibly for many decades ahead.”

Neymar Banned For Three Matches After Insulting Referee During PSG’s Defeat To Manchester United

Neymar Banned For Three Matches After Insulting Referee During PSG’s Defeat To Manchester United

Neymar hit with 3-match Champions League ban for telling VAR officials to
Neymar has been banned for three Champions League games by UEFA after “insulting match officials” during PSG’s defeat to Manchester United.

The Brazilian was watching the second-leg of the dramatic round-of-16 tie from the sidelines, where United defeated PSG 3-1 at the Parc des Princes, having been ruled out through injury.

But in a social media post after the game, Neymar explicitly criticised the controversial last-gasp penalty awarded to United for handball against Presnel Kimpembe.

Neymar wrote in an Instagram handle:

'This is a disgrace, they put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.''

''There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f*** yourselves!''

As a followup to the above statement, UEFA’s disciplinary committee has released an official statement, it reads:

"The CEDB has decided to suspend the Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior for three (3) UEFA competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible, for insulting match officials."

This implies that the £200m star player will miss half of Paris Saint-Germain's group games in next year's Champions League

Nigerians React As Bayelsa State House Of Assembly Approves N500,000 Life Pension Bill For Past And Present Lawmakers

Nigerians React As Bayelsa State House Of Assembly Approves N500,000 Life Pension Bill For Past And Present Lawmakers

Nigerians react as Bayelsa state House of Assembly approves N500,000 life pension bill for past and present lawmakers

Nigerians are currently reacting to the new law passed by members of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly that all past and present lawmakers will henceforth be entitled to lifetime pension.

The lawmakers passed the bill into law on Wednesday April 24th after the Leader of the House, Peter Akpe, representing Sagbama Constituency 1, moved the motion for the debate.

The bill proposed a monthly pension of N100,000 for members while the speaker and deputy speaker would be entitled to N500,000 and N200,000, respectively throughout their life after serving in the Assembly.
Nigerians react as Bayelsa state House of Assembly approves N500,000 life pension bill for past and present lawmakers
Nigerians are however enraged by the bill. Many believe it is insensitive of the Assembly which is dominated by PDP members, to pass such a bill when the state residents are yet to reap the dividends of democracy. Some Nigerians argue that the lawmakers are not civil servants and are not entitiled to pension.

The opposition party, APC, in a statement released by its publicity secretary, Doifie Buokoribo, said it was unsympathetic for members of the House of Assembly to seek to enhance their own lives at the expense of the vast majority of Bayelsa people living in pain and penury.

The party described the bill as “unjust, ungodly and self-serving,” also describing the life pension bill as an “unspeakable crime against our people.”  It called on the state governor not to assent on the bill: Lindaikejis blog reports
Nigerians react as Bayelsa state House of Assembly approves N500,000 life pension bill for past and present lawmakers

The statement reads in part:

“The party has also observed how the strange idea, which was proposed as a bill and passed by the House on Wednesday has set the public pulse racing.

APC Bayelsa completely rejects this life pension bill for members of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly.  “APC has been at the forefront of efforts to enthrone a regime of better life for the people of Bayelsa state. And we have led a robust opposition to the current system of anti-people governance in the state for close to eight years.

Regarding this latest move by the House of Assembly, we again say that the idea is avaricious, wicked, and insensitive. “By proposing such a law, the lawmakers have merely portrayed themselves as a people who feel no concern for the feelings of their suffering constituents.

They have once again confirmed that they are in cahoots with the executive in the serial impoverishment of the people of Bayelsa state.” — Lindaikejis blog reports.

APC Chieftain Tony Momoh Warns Nigerian Workers That The New Minimum Wage May Lead To Chaos

The Nigerian workers with great happiness embraced the new Thirty thousand naira (₦30,000) minimum wage appproved by the President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, April, 18, a former minister of information, Prince Tony Momoh, has said that the new minimum wage regime may lead to chaos.

"Momoh also warned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against imposing the leadership of the National Assembly to avoid a backlash" - Daily Trust reports

Freshreporters News gathered that the former minister who spoke with journalists on Friday (April 19) in Abuja during a chat as part of activities to mark his 80th birthday and 50th marriage anniversary, said the “so called” minimum wage is not a living wage, hence should not be celebrated.

Momoh, a lawyer, however, said the conviction of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, was in order and not a witch-hunt. He said: “My prediction is that the N30,000 minimum wage will cause chaos because many state governments that were paying N7,500 before N18,000 was introduced could not pay then. A lot of them are currently finding it difficult to pay N18,000. They are already saying they can’t pay and this would lead to strikes.

When that happens, the nation is in trouble. “The N30,000 minimum wage is not a living wage. What is the percentage of the workers in Nigeria that are entitled to the N30,000 minimum wage? What is the percentage of public servants compared to the percentage of the entire working population in Nigeria?.

The chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC)also said the idea of party supremacy would not work when it comes to the issue of National Assembly and especially in determining its leadership.

According to the chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), "party supremacy would have been possible if the country was running a parliamentary system of government. He said under the current presidential system of government, the party may not have its way in the area of imposing its candidates on the National Assembly." – legit.ng reports

Secretary Toby says — “It’s just to make sure that crawling and creeping things get fumigated from the building. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosts the office of the president, so it did an internal memo asking the staff to stay home while they do the fumigation.

The snakes were never killed. There was a little hole somewhere [through which] they made their way back.”

Toby further disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, April 19, began thorough fumigation of the building.

He added: “That building’s been there for years now, and [because of] the drainage system, the possibility of having things like snakes crawling in that building was high,” he said.

National Tragedy : Ex- President Kills Himself To Avoid Arrest

National Tragedy : Ex- President Kills Himself To Avoid Arrest

Peru's Garcia, former president and political chameleon, kills himself to avoid arrest

Peru's Garcia, Former President And Political Chameleon, Kills Himself Amid Corruption Probe

Former Peruvian President Alan Garcia shot himself in the head and died Wednesday as officers waited to arrest him in a massive graft probe that has put the country's most prominent politicians behind bars and provoked a reckoning over corruption.
Fresh Reporters News gathered that there were authorities present who broke through a door at Garcia's mansion in a leafy, upscale neighborhood of the Peruvian capital after hearing gunfire. The 69-year-old former head of state was rushed to a hospital, where a team of doctors performed emergency surgery but could not save him.
"The president, upset over this situation, knowing his absolute innocence ... had this terrible accident," said his lawyer, Erasmo Reyna.
It was a shocking end for a man who twice ruled Peru - once in the 1980s and then again more than two decades later. In more recent years, he became ensnared in Latin America's biggest corruption scandal, a sweeping investigation of politicians' dealings with the Brazilian construction giant known as Odebrecht.
No country outside Brazil has gone as far in prosecuting politicians tied to Odebrecht, which admitted in a 2016 plea agreement that it paid nearly $800 million throughout Latin America in exchange for lucrative public-works contracts.
In Peru, politicians have described the accusations as a political witch hunt. Prosecutors and anti-corruption advocates insist the arrests show the South American nation is finally holding leaders accountable.

Several leaders called on Peruvians to set aside politics as the nation mourns the one-time populist firebrand whose second presidency helped usher in a commodities-led investment boom.
"It doesn't matter your political hue, Peru is in mourning," politician Gilbert Violeta wrote on Twitter. "This is a tragedy for our country."
Condolences poured in from throughout Latin America as leaders recalled a man who at his peak was called the John F. Kennedy of Latin America.
"With virtues and imperfections, he realized great changes that allowed Peru's economy to become one of the fastest-growing in Latin America and in the world," former Mexican President Felipe Calderon said.
Garcia was born into a middle-class family in the capital, the child of a politician father whose party became Garcia's own. He went on to a career marked by epic triumphs and devastating setbacks, a rollercoaster of a political life fueled by his charisma and capacity for reinvention.
Ultimately, though, the former president was an increasingly isolated figure. As investigators closed in, he argued that he was the victim of false testimony about taking bribes from Odebrecht during the construction of Lima's metro. He had not been formally charged.

Expert Gives Explanation On Why Nigerians Are Experiencing Hot Weather

Expert Gives Explanation On Why Nigerians Are Experiencing Hot Weather

Reasons For An Excessive Heat In Nigeria Discussed By An Expert.

Expert Gives Explanation On Why Nigerians Are Experiencing Hot Weather
Describing hot weather

According to a knowledgeable personnel, Dr. Mohammed Bukar Ngamdu, made striking declarations in his statement on the prevailing weather condition.

Today being Monday, Dr. Ngamdu who is from the Department of Geography, Yobe State University Damaturu during his interaction with Daily Post made the following explanations on the reasons for hot weather felt in Nigeria.

See here :
“The excessive heat in this part of the country is as result of global climatic change which can be attributed to human activities.

“Activities such as deforestation among others without replacing them are responsible. For instance, in an environment, normally trees serve as carbon storage facilities, that is the excess carbon that exists in the atmosphere is being stored in the trees.

“So in the process of cutting down these trees, the carbon being stored in the tree will go back to the atmosphere, thereby increasing the rate of heat in the atmosphere,” he noted.

According to him, as a result of continues climatic change, the Southern part of the country keeps on experiencing the problem of flooding, whereas the northern part keeps on experiencing the problem of increased heat waves, desertification and drought among other environmental challenges.

“Climatically, as of now if you move northward in the state, the rate of desertification, drought and excessive heat keeps on increasing in that area. For instance, when you compare places like Machina, Yunusari and Yusufari in northern Yobe, they ore hotter than places like Fika, Gujba and Gulani located in the Southern part of the state.

“That means that the more you go northward part of the state, the higher the heat becomes”, the climatologist expatiated.

He further attributed the high rate of health issues such as dehydration and kidney diseases among people in the state to the increase in the heat waves, while calling on policymakers in the state to stretch out laws that would discourage people from cutting down trees.

Mass Surrender Of Boko Haram Fighters Is Not Too Far - Presidency

Mass Surrender Of Boko Haram Fighters Imminent

As we look up for peace to reign in North-Eastern part of Nigeria, issues were raised on Saturday by Nigeria’s presidency on prospects that battered and weary Boko Haram militants were opting for a mass surrender to the Nigerian forces.

Thee senior special assistant to the President, Malam Garba Shehu, gave the clue in a statement to commemorate five years of the abduction of Chibok schoolgirls in Borno state by Boko Haram militants.

Here is his words :

The success of the Nigerian military in subduing Boko Haram is evidenced by the large numbers of militants who have surrendered recently, especially in neighbouring Cameroon and Niger.

“A similar mass surrender of militants is expected to happen soon in Nigeria”, Shehu said.

“While Nigerian military operations are ongoing, the government is also engaging with the militants but the talks have been affected by the factionalisation of Boko Haram – with one group adopting a hard line attitude and intensifying attacks on Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, and another group engaging with the government for peaceful resolution” he said.

Garba while addressing the body in the same statement accused the military operations by Nigeria in the zone for the non-release of Leah Sharibu, the only Dapchi schoolgirl that has not been released by the militants, since her capture, along with scores of others last year February" :News Agency of Nigeria reports.

On Leah Sharibu’s abduction, the interlocutors have reported encouraging progress so far.

“The report reaching us says her return to her family has unfortunately been hindered by the fear of the militants.

“They worry that heavy military presence in areas where they previously moved about freely could affect their safety after they return her to the government.

“At the same time, the military cannot jeopardise the security of the entire north-eastern region by halting their operations to accommodate Boko Haram’s fears.

“Leah Sharibu will be reunited with her family as soon as any conclusions are reached on a number of options being considered for her safe transportation”.
